Things To Do In Houston During Christmas
By Kylie Salch ('23)
After about two years stuck inside your house, there is no doubt you want to
go out in Houston during the Christmas season. So where can you go?
Here’s a list of places where you can go to celebrate Christmas in Houston.
First off, the ice rink at Discovery Green. Whether you're a pro at skating, or
a complete novice, ice skating is a fun activity to do with friends, family, or
even just with yourself. With this ice rink, you can enjoy the beautiful
downtown view and create many memories. One of the advantages here is
that Discovery Green’s ice rink is outside with plenty of space. The other
plus is that Discovery Green Park in all is a beautiful place with many areas
to take cute pictures. Tickets must be purchased online for safety reasons.
Monday, admission is $8, while the other days are $15 per person, with
skate rentals included.
Do you want to celebrate the Christmas season with a cup of cocoa in a nice
warm seat? You should drive through Rudolph’s Light Show. Rudolph’s Light
Show is full of huge light tunnels with snowmen and other features with over
one million lights. These lights are synced to music that will be played
throughout the tunnels. The light show opens early November and closes
the first week of January.
Magical Winter Lights is one of the most popular activities in Houston. This is a 20-acre
lantern festival that has themed lantern sections. They have acrobatic performances at nights
with carnival rides and games. This is the largest lantern festival of its kind in the U.S.
Lastly, imagine celebrating Christmas while watching wild animals, visiting the real
Santa, and taking cute and memorable pictures. You can do all of this and more at the Houston
Zoo with Zoo Lights. This is a walk through at the zoo full of music and lights. The pictures you
take there are like no other. If you would like to do this, then I definitely recommend buying
your tickets online, and getting there early because the line gets long FAST!
