IWA Swim
By Sarah Douglass ('23)
“Being part of the swim team is an amazing feeling,” says Elizabeth Hunt, a junior
committed to the Incarnate Word Academy swim team. The participating students acknowledged the memorable opportunity they possess to be a part of a group where the environment they build with one another is comfortable and encouraging. This environment is vital to the survival of their team as well.
“The practices are tough, and a lot of the time I feel like I almost can’t do it, but coach
Rachel is amazing at encouraging us to push ourselves,” continued Elizabeth. The encouraging environment of the swim team allows for everyone to stay motivated and inspired to continue to push their limits and break their records. In Elizabeth’s experience on the swim team, she has broken her 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle by a second. Claire Fischbach, a freshman on the team, has broken the 200m IM, 100m breast, and 200m freestyle records individually.
Some of the things the girls have said are their favorite things about being on the team
are the after meet bus rides, the practices at University of Houston, and the overall positive experience of being on an inspiring team.
